Juan Carlos's birth story

Hello all! It has been quite a while since I have logged on to our blog. Adapting to a new lifestyle and getting used to being a mommy 24/7 has kept me pretty busy. Anyways, here I am and here is the story of JC's birth.

I had my last OBGYN appointment on Saturday, September 12th... the Dr. had told me that if nothing happened until then he would induce my labor. So when I went to his office and he checked my pulse and JC's heartbeat he wasn't that thrilled of what he heard. Then he told us to go to the hospital and check in to have some tests done and if all was right he would induce me. When we got to the hospital I had a fetal heart monitor and it seemed that is was not going up and down like it would normally do. We had several readings and the Dr. wasn't convinced we should stress Juan Carlos by inducing me. Then, I had an ultrasound, which showed that everything was perfect. After that another monitoring of his heart beat which showed the same results (No ups and downs...)
The Dr. tried inducing me with some pitocin and after about 30 minutes we had another heartbeat reading and the medical staff decided not to put JC under stress and they schedule my C-Section right away for 4:30PM -- It was 12:30PM and I was shocked by their decision and not very happy since I didn't even give the other method a try. Lets not even talk about how my dad felt when he found out they were going to split me open! He literally was Pissed Off!

Well finally, they took me to the operating room and Juan Carlos was born at 5PM that same day. I felt so happy I was crying looking at my first born crying his lungs out.
I didn't care anymore about anything, just about seeing my son and having him in my arms. Well... that did not happen!! Juan Carlos had wet lungs and was put in an incubator with oxygen, I didn't get to see him until 10 PM because I forced the nurses to take me over to the Neonatal Care Unit. I was not going to spend the night without meeting my son!... Then we found out that he would be in that incubator from 48 - 72 hours!! I couldn't believe it... it was heart breaking seeing him trapped in that box! Boy I cried several times from seeing him intubated and poked everywhere with a needle.
the next morning we found out that his billirubine had gone up and he had jaundice! That meant he had to be at least 48 hours under the billi lights! I was so frustrated with all of this and nobody could meet him either. Meanwhile I had visitors come to my room and ask 1000 questions that I didn't feel like answering because I had other things in my mind and felt horrible about the situation.

Bottom line! Those crazy days passed and I finally had JC in my arms! Carlos and I are thankful for this wonderful opportunity of being parents! We love our son!

Well, we can really say Juan Carlos is a full term baby now. :) It's a matter of time and we will have him happily in our arms. Everything is ready for his arrival, I have my bags all packed up next to my bedroom door, his nursery is all set and grammy made a beautiful bassinet where he'll be sleeping the first couple of months. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment! Hope to have good news soon :)

36 weeks... My goodness where does time go???

It is amazing at how fast time goes by. Lots of nice things have happened since my last post. I had a restful summer vacation, finished the baby's room and got to travel to Miami - Orlando to visit family. I really enjoyed myself since Carlos got to meet lots of relatives. Juan Carlos had a lot of fun too!! He visited Disney's magic kingdom, Sea world and went on a Safari!!! I could feel his excitement!! :)

We were very blessed in this trip and also received a shower of gifts from all of the family. We really thank Aunt Mary for all of the hard work and effort that she put into planning such event! I had a blast with all he girls in that small room.

Today I started work again and will be here for 2 weeks and then it's off to motherhood! I can't wait to have my little prince in my arms! This is the best gift we could ever receive. It is a true excitement and it is also marking my life.

Looks just like Daddy!

We did the 3D ultrasound yesterday and baby was really active. Doctor said that he is measuring at 26 weeks 5 days and weighing close to 2.4 lbs!! Well, I just have to say that he looks like his daddy! :) His lips are the same... I am in love with my baby!

Flying high...

A friend of ours came over yesterday and painted clouds up in the sky! Daddy was in charge of nailing the decorative fixtures to the wall! We are so happy with how it turned out.

The crib arrived!!!

It is so nice to see the room starting to take shape!! I am just a little upset that the mattress that we ordered is not the right size....:( But I guess everything is fixable! We will see about that tomorrow. Enjoy the pictures meanwhile! :)

Kickin up a storm!!

It's been a week since my little honey is making me feel his presence! Grammy has already felt him from the outside!! It is so cool to feel him move around. Tomorrow the crib and mattresses are being delivered!! It will be cool to see it in the bedroom. Saturday we are going to give the room the finishing touches with the paint... Clouds and hanging the wooden appliques. :) Little by little things are getting done. Pictures will follow...
